THE RIGHTEOUS BROTHERS: BOBBY HATFIELD and BILL MEDLEY. Photograph signed: "Bobby Hatfield" and "Bill Medley". B/w, 10x8. Inscribed by Hatfield: "To David,/Best Always,/The/Righteous/Brothers". Masters of "blue eyed soul", Hatfield and Medley teamed up in 1962, releasing their first album as the Righteous Brothers in 1963. Working with producer Phil Spector and the "Wall of Sound" orchestration he had developed for several "Motown" groups, the Righteous Brothers had their biggest hit, "You've Lost That Lovin' Feeling", in 1965. Other hits included "Unchained Melody" (1965) and "Soul and Inspiration" (1966). After breaking up in 1968, they reunited in 1974 and released the hit "Rock and Roll Heaven." Hatfield, a soaring tenor born in 1940, and Medley, a silken baritone born the following year, continued to perform 60-80 special shows per year, combined with stints in Las Vegas. Hatfield was found dead in his hotel room on November 5, 2003, shortly before a scheduled performance at Western Michigan University. ¾-inch tear (intact) at lower edge, else fine condition.
