Although perhaps best known for his role as Paladin, the western soldier of fortune, on the 1957-1963 TV western, Have Gun-Will Travel, RICHARD BOONE (1917-1981) also appeared on television in Medic, The Richard Boone Show, an anthology series, and Hec Ramsey, produced by his friend, Jack Webb. The rugged leading man also enjoyed a long film career, from 1950s The Halls of Montezuma to 1987's The Roarer. One of his notable performances was as Pontius Pilate in The Robe (1953). NANCY KELLY (1921-1995) won the 1955 Tony Award as Best Actress (Dramatic) for The Bad Seed, for which she received a Best Actress Academy Award nomination in 1957 for reprising her role of Christine Penmark in the 1956 film version. In 1957, Kelly was also nominated for an Emmy Award for Best Single Performance by an Actress for "The Pilot", an episode of the acclaimed anthology series, Studio One. Kelly, who made her film debut in 1926 (The Untamed Lady), would go on to appear in feature films through 1956 before concentrating primarily on television roles. Her film credits include The Great Gatsby (1926), Jesse James (1939), Stanley and Livingstone (1939), Tarzan's Desert Mystery (1943), Double Exposure (1944) and Crowded Paradise (1956). After making her television debut in an episode of The Silver Theater (1950), Kelly was seen in a number of early anthology series, and she made guest appearances on several series, including Thriller (1962), The Alfred Hitchcock Hour (1963), Medical Center (1974) and Bronk (1975), and appeared in two made-for-TV movies. Kelly was married to her first husband, actor Edmond O'Brien, from 1941-1942. She then married Fred Jackman, Jr. (1946-1950) and Warren Caro (1955-1968), dying the day after Caro. MARTIN GABEL (1912-1986) won the 1961 Tony Award for Best Supporting or Featured Actor for his role as Basil Smythe in Big Fish Little Fish (1961). A Philadelphia native, Gabel began his career on stage, making his Broadway debut in The Sky's the Limit (1934-1935). He went on to appear in over two dozen Broadway plays, including Reclining Figure (1954-1955), The Hidden River (1957) and Baker Street (1965). Also a producer, his productions Mrs. Dally (1965) and Once More, With Feeling (1958-1959) were also successful on Broadway. While more known for his stage acting, Gabel was a noted film actor, and appeared in supporting roles with some of Hollywood's best, including Frank Sinatra, Humphrey Bogart, Walter Matthau and Jack Lemmon. His best movies include Deadline U.S.A. (1952), Lady in Cement (1968) and The Front Page (1974). In 1941 Gabel famously narrated the CBS radio broadcast program On a Note of Triumph, a commemoration of the fall of the Nazi Regime in Germany at the end of World War II. The special, which was applauded all over the nation, became the focus for the short film A Note of Triumph: The Golden Age of Norman Corwin which won an Oscar in 2005. Slightly worn and creased.
