Theatre Guild production of Richard Sheridan's play, "The Rivals", performed at the Pabst Theatre (Milwaukee, Wisconsin), January 8-10, 1942. London-born American actress, writer and stage producer/director EVA LE GALLIENNE (1899-1991) had 77 Broadway productions and 15 TV shows and movies to her credit. She was nominated for the 1980 Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her portrayal of Ellen Burstyn's Grandma Pearl in Resurrection (1980) and for the 1981 Tony Award for Best Actress in a Play for To Grandmother's House We Go (1981). BOBBY CLARK (1888-1960), a vaudeville comedian, made 36 two-reel comedies, co-starring Paul McCullough, for RKO between 1928 and 1936. He never made another movie after McCullough's suicide, but starred on Broadway in a series of musical comedies through 1951. WALTER HAMPDEN (1879-1955) was a prominent American stage actor closely associated with the role of Cyrano de Bergerac, which he first performed in 1923. Hampden formed his own repertory company, was President of the Players' Club for 27 years, and appeared in supporting roles in several films, from The Hunchback of Notre Dame (1939) to The Vagabond King (1956). "The Rivals," the first production of English playwright Richard Brinsley Sheridan, was first produced in 1775, and was a favorite of both George Washington and King George III.
