1980 SAN DIEGO PADRES Official Padres baseball signed by members of the 1980 team Baseball Signed: "Mike Armstrong", "Rick Wise", "Dave Cash", "Jerry Coleman", "Ozzie Smith", "Steve Mura", "Juan Eichelberger", "Craig Stimac", "Luis Salazar" and "Dick Phillips" . Official San Diego Padres ball containing the team logo. Ball contains and 15 unidentified signatures, bringing the total of 25. OZZIE SMITH (b. 1954) played the first four of his 19 Major League seasons (1978-1996) with the San Diego Padres.  A pesky hitter and good base stealer, "the Wizard of Oz" may have been the best defensive shortstop of all time. Over his career, he averaged a remarkable one chance per game more than the average NL shortstop, making 25% more plays than his rivals! A 15-time All-Star and of course, a 13-time Gold Glove, Smith was elected to the Hall of Fame in 2002. An extremely versatile reserve who played every position but catcher in 12 major-league seasons, LUIS SALAZAR (b. 1956) was a Padre three different times (1980-1984, 1987 and 1989). As the Padres' third baseman in 1982-1983, he hit 22 homers and stole 56 bases. He was a career .308 pinch-hitter in 88 at-bats, with four pinch-homers and 17 runs batted in. Signatures faint, some illegible. Minor scuff to the right of imprint. Otherwise, fine condition.
