THE SENATOR WAS INDISCREET MOVIE CAST: HANS CONRIED, PETER LIND HAYES and IRON EYES CODY
All three sign a 10x8 still from the 1947 comedy.
Photograph signed: "Thanks!/& Cheers!/Peter Lind Hayes" and "Hans Conried" and inscribed and signed: "To William/Iron Eyes Cody/Cherokee Cree/Indian 1981". B/w, 10x8 overall, image 8¾x6¾ (one surface). Still from the 1947 comedy, The Senator Was Indiscreet, also called Mr. Ashton Was Indiscreet. Directed by George Kaufamn (the directorial debut of the playwright), the film starred William Powell as Senator Melvin G. Ashton. Multitalented PETER LIND HAYES (1915-1998) played Ashton's press agent, Lew Gibson, HANS CONRIED (1917-1982) appeared as a waiter and IRON EYES CODY (1907-1999) was billed simply as "Indian" (ironically, although he has identified himself as a Cherokee Indian, Cody, born Espera Oscar DeCorti, was the son of Italian immigrants; Cody later married an Indian woman, adopted two Indian sons, worked as an Indian for his entire adult life and devoted himself to Native American causes). The cast also included Ella Raines, Myrna Loy and Chief Thundercloud. Fine condition.
