Photograph signed: "Joel McCrea" and "Irene Dunne". B/w, 8x10. Scene from the 1933 drama/romance The Silver Cord wherein a domineering matriarch is less than happy when her son brings home his new bride. She immediately sets to work at sabotaging their marriage. JOEL McCREA (1905-1990), who was a movie stunt double while still in high school and appearing at the Pasadena Playhouse while at USC, made his film debut in 1927 and had his breakthrough role, in Jazz Age, two years later. In 1946, after making The Virginian, McCrea concentrated on Westerns. In addition to his long list of film credits, McCrea starred on the early 1950s radio show, Tales of the Texas Rangers, and the 1959 TV series, Wichita Town. Cary Grant, who starred with actress IRENE DUNNE (1898-1990) in The Awful Truth (1937) and My Favorite Wife (1940), called her the finest comedienne he had ever worked with. Dunne, whose first screwball comedy was Theodora Goes Wild (1936), received Best Actress Academy Award nominations for that film and for Cimarron (1930-1931), The Awful Truth (1937), Love Affair (1939) and I Remember Mama (1948). Lightly creased. Otherwise, fine condition.
