Two stars of The Sound and The Fury inscribed a black and white scene from their film.
Photograph inscribed and signed "To Roy/ Yul Brynner" and "To Roy/Best Wishes/ Margaret
Leighton". B/w, 7¼x9. Scene from the 1959 film, The Sound and The Fury. In this film,
Brynner is the oldest son of a once-proud Southern family rife with inner turmoil. One family
member, Margaret Leighton, is a sex addict; one byproduct of her carelessness is an illegitimate
daughter, played by Joanne Woodward. Actor YUL BRYNNER (1915-1988) was born on
Sakhalin Island, Russia. After performing in various entertainment roles in Paris, he came to
the U.S. in 1940. He appeared in several successful films, including Anastasia and The Ten
Commandments (both 1956), The Magnificent Seven (1960) and Westworld (1973). He's
best known as the stage and screen star of The King and I (1956 film), the Rodgers and
Hammerstein musical for which he won a Tony Award (1951) and then an Oscar (1956).
He starred in nationwide revival tours of the play in 1977 and 1985. Other screen credits
include a reprisal of his role as the Gunslinger from Westworld (1973) in the sequel
Futureworld (1976). LEIGHTON rose to prominence in the late '40s; over the next decade
she became a highly respected actress for her work in both London and Broadway, typically
portraying fragile, neurotic women. For her performances in the Broadway plays Separate
Tables (1956) and The Night of the Iguana (1962) she won Tony Awards. Onscreen from
the late '40s, she appeared in numerous films over nearly three decades. For her work in The
Go-Between (1971) she received a Best Supporting Actress Oscar nomination. Minor
