THE SPRINGFIELDS: MIKE AND TOM
A sentiment of best wishes from the band, with Mike Hurst and Tom Springfield personally signing their names under the band's name. Extremely rare!
Autograph sentiment signed: "Best Wishes/The Springfields", "Mike", "Tom", 4½x4. Also signed on verso: "Robin Than Daold/xxx", but no information is available. The Springfields, formed in 1960, were a British pop-folk trio comprised of Dusty Springfield, TOM SPRINGFIELD, and Tim Field. Leading off of Tom's extensive knowledge of folk music, the group released their first single "Dear John" in 1961, followed by hits "Breakaway" and "Bambino". As their popularity began to grow, Tim Field left and was replaced by MIKE HURST, who proved to be a good fit for the band and further helped their success. Their 1962 single "Silver Threads and Golden Needles" reached the top 20 on the US Billboard charts, being the first British group to do so. However, despite the success and popularity of the group, Dusty left in 1963 to pursue other genres outside of folk. Hurst went on to become a successful producer, Tom a songwriter, and Dusty a hugely popular solo performer. Ink note (unknown hand) on top margin. Right edge creased and frayed. Corners slightly worn. Stray ink marks across. Otherwise, fine condition.
