1969 ST. LOUIS CARDINALS 18 team members including Hall of Famers Bob Gibson, Steve Carlton, Lou Brock, Joe Torre, and manager Red Schoendienst sign this baseball Baseball Signed: "Red Schoendienst" on sweet-spot, "Phil Gagliano", "Mike Shannon", "Steve Huntz", "Bill White", "Dick Sisler", "Bob Johnson", "Chuck Taylor", "Bob Gibson", "Joe Torre", "Boots Day", "Vic Davalillo", "Steve Carlton", "Dave Ricketts", "Tim McCarver", "Joe Hoerner" , "Nellie Briles" In all, 18 signatures, 1 of which remains unidentified. Among the signers are four members of baseball's Hall of Fame: Manager RED SCHOENDIENST (1923-2018) (who was also a fine second baseman for the Cardinals in the 1950s and early 1960s), pitchers BOB GIBSON (b. 1935) and STEVE CARLTON (b. 1944), stolen base wizard/outfielder LOU BROCK (b. 1939), and JOE TORRE (b. 1940), who played first base for the 1969 Cardinals went on to serve as manager for several teams. The 1969 St. Louis Cardinals went 87-75, disappointing only in relation to their National League pennant in 1968 and World Championship in 1967. Thirteen of the signers here were also on the 1967 and 1968 teams. The only signer who wasn't on the 1969 Cardinals roster was DICK SISLER (1920-1998), a minor league hitting instructor for the team in 1969, and a former player. He was the son of Hall of Famer George Sisler, who had starred for St. Louis' other team, the Browns. The names of four more team members : Ray Washburn, Dave Giusti, Vada Pinson and Ron Willis, appear on the ball, but they are probably clubhouse signatures. Evenly toned. Minor scuffs. Stain at sweet-spot, not affecting signatures. Otherwise, fine condition.
