THE STATLER BROTHERS: HAROLD REID, PHIL BALSEY, DON REID, JIMMY FORTUNE
Color full-length band photo of the Grammy-winning country band The Statler Brothers, signed after Lew DeWitt left the band and was replaced by Jimmy Fortune
Photograph signed "Harold/Reid", "Don/Reid", "Jimmy/Fortune" and "Phil/Balsey", all in blue ink. B/w, 10x8 overall, 9¼x6½ image, one surface, printed on cardstock. Photo by agent Marshall Dick. Captioned: "The Statler Brothers/The Entertainers On and Off the Record". This photo was taken sometime after 1982, when original band member Lew DeWitt was forced to leave the band as a result of Crohn's disease. He was replaced by Jimmy Fortune. This photo has a short biography of the group printed on verso. THE STATLER BROTHERS signed with Columbia Records in 1964 and a year later scored a huge country and pop hit with Flowers on the Wall, written by Lew DeWitt. Flowers on the Wall earned them a Grammy Award, and they won another award for their 1972 single Class of '57. In all, they have 30 Top 10 hits on the Billboard Country and Pop Singles charts, including the chart-toppers Do You Know You Are My Sunshine (1978), Elizabeth (1983), My Only Love (1984) and Too Much on My Heart (1985). They performed on the road with Johnny Cash from 1963 to 1971 and recorded for Mercury Records from 1971 to 1995. Lightly toned, creased and bowed. Parts of Don Reid's signature has low contrast but is legible. Pen skipped while writing Fortune's signature, which is legible. Otherwise in fine condition.
