Color, 10x8. MGM publicity photograph, ©1976. Walter Matthau (1920-2000) won the 1966 Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his role as lawyer Willie Gingrich in The Fortune Cookie. He was also nominated for Best Actor Oscars for Kotch (1971) and The Sunshine Boys (1975). He co-starred with Jack Lemmon in 11 films, including Grumpy Old Men (1993) and Grumpier Old Men (1995). On screen since 1950, Matthau also appeared in such well-remembered films as Plaza Suite (1971) and The Bad News Bears (1976). Actor/director Richard Benjamin (b. 1938) began his career on the stage, directing the London production of Barefoot in the Park (1965) and the following year, made his Broadway acting debut in The Star Spangled Girl (1966) for which he won a Theatre World Award for his performance. Benjamin later appeared in such films as Catch-22 (1969), Westworld (1973), The Sunshine Boys (1976), and Love at First Bite (1980). He made his directorial bow with My Favorite Year (1982), and continues to favor directing over acting in recent years. Fine condition.
