THE TIME OF THE CUCKOO PLAYCAST Showbill cover signed by star Jean Stapleton and seven other cast members Show bill signed: "Jack Manning", "Patrizia/Pierangeli", "Peter Hirst", "Jean Stapleton", "Patty McCormack", "Andrew Resto", "Charlotte Rae", "Ernest Thompson", 8½x10¾. JACK MANNING (1916-2009) appeared on Broadway stages for over twenty years in comedies (Junior Miss, 1941-1943; The Tender Trap, 1954-1955), dramas (Othello, 1943-1944; O'Daniel, 1947) and musicals (Alice in Wonderland, 1947; Do I Hear Waltz, 1965). A character actor in films and television series from 1957 (Studio One in Hollywood) to 2004 (Hearts as One), notable credits include The Owl and the Pussycat (1970), The Paper Chase (1978-1979) and Silver Spoons (1982). Stage, screen and television actress JEAN STAPLETON (born in 1923) is best known for her role as Edith Bunker, aka "Dingbat", in the popular TV sitcom, All in the Family (1971-1980). Although the Emmy Award-winning "Edith" opened the show each week with a screeching rendition of "Those Were the Days", Stapleton not only possessed a lilting, well-modulated singing voice, but she was far from a "dingbat" in real life. She endeared herself to Broadwayites with her wistfully funny characterizations in the SRO musicals Damn Yankees, Bells Are Ringing and Funny Girl, roles that she would carry over into the film versions of these hits. Most of her onscreen work could be found in New York-based movies (Something Wild, Up the Down Staircase and Klute) and TV series (Car 54, Where Are You?, The Defenders and The Patty Duke Show). Stapleton has also made a number of other feature films, including You've Got Mail (1998), and has been a guest star on a number of other TV shows. PATRICIA MCCORMACK (b. 1945) went from playing murderous children (The Bad Seed on Broadway, 1954); and on film, 1956) to disturbed teen-agers (The Young Runaways, 1968) to murderous mothers (Mommy, 1995; Mommy II, 1997). She starred in her own TV sitcom, Peck's Bad Girl (1959-1960), and appeared in several episodes of The Ropers (1979-1980), including the first episode, "Moving On." McCormack received a Best Actress Oscar nomination for The Bad Seed. CHARLOTTE RAE (1926-2018) starred as Mrs. Edna Garrett on Diff'rent Strokes (1978-1979, 1984) and The Facts of Life (1979-1986) and in the 2001 made-for-TV movie, The Facts of Life Reunion. Rae, who has appeared in several feature films and made-for-TV movies, also had a successful career on Broadway. She was nominated for Tony Awards for Pickwick (1966) and Morning, Noon and Night (1969) and created the role of Mammy Yokum in the Broadway musical, Lil' Abner. ERNEST THOMPSON (b. 1949) is a writer, actor, and director, working in both stage and film. His work as author on the Broadway play On The Golden Pond (1979) is considered to be the high point of his career, with a screen adaption of the play starring Katharine Hepburn and Henry Fonda winning him an Academy Award, Golden Globe Award, and Writers Guild of America Award. He would follow his award winning play with The West Side Waltz (1981), and continues to write for film and stage today.
