THE TRIX SISTERS
A member of the popular vaudevillian duo has signed on behalf of both sisters on this 3¼x4¾ black and white photo
Photograph signed: “Sincerely/ Trix Sisters” in blue ink, b/w, 3¼x4¾. Known for their controversial behavior and constant bickering, the Trix Sisters were well-loved performers nonetheless. Helen Yeiser (1886-1951) went to New York after studying music at Albright College. She released the hit song, “The Bird on Nellie's Hat” in 1907. Her success led to an invitation from Oswald Stoll to travel to Europe, where she enjoyed considerable success, returning to America in 1912. Her big break came in 1916, when she appeared in the Edward F. Temple revue, the Bull Ring. Josephine Yeiser (1898-1992) eventually came to New York and studied under Madam Kutschewra while her sister showed her the show business ropes. In 1920, the sisters traveled to England after receiving an offer for C.B. Cochran to perform in one of his revues at the New Oxford Theatre. They went on to star first in the popular revue the League of Notions, and then in The Cabaret Follies before starting in their own show in 1923: The Trix Sisters Blues Room. The sister then began appearing in the show Piccadilly Revels, all the while releasing an impressive number of recordings for HMV and Columbia. After Helen married in 1926 the sisters broke up, but they eventually reconciled, continuing to perform and record in Europe until the 1940s. Scuffed throughout. Adhesive remnants on verso from a previous mounting. Otherwise, fine condition.
