THE UNKNOWN COMIC (MURRAY LANGSTON)
The most famous Unknown Comic around inscribes his publicity photo to a fan, in black felt tip
Inscribed Printed Photograph Signed in Ink: "To Eli-/You'll never/be unknown to/me/The Unknown/Comic/Murray Langston" in black felt tip. B/w. 8x10.  The Unknown Comic is the stage name of comedian Murray Langston (b.1944) who is best remembered for his standup routines on The Gong Show. Recognizable only by a brown paper bag as a mask, the comedian fell into the role of his most famous character almost accidentally.  Well-known in the scene with over a hundred appearances on the Sonny & Cher Comedy Hour (with his partner Freeman King), Langston found himself dirt broke in the mid-1970s after his nightclub SHOW-BIZ closed its doors, losing all his money in investments. Hard for jobs, he found work on The Gong Show, though he was too embarrassed to go on stage, so he asked the producers if he could put a paper bag over his head. When the bagged comic hopped on stage with his jumpy jokes and tousled attire, he became an instant hit.  From there, he went on to perform in over 150 episodes of the Gong Show, as well as in his own nightclubs acts in Las Vegas. In the early 1980's, Langston finally revealed himself at the Unknown Comic on an episode of Real People. Also a talented writer, Langston wrote screenplays for Up Your Alley (1997), Wishful Thinking (1997) and Night Patrol (1984) which he also starred in. Fine condition.
