THE VENTURES: DON WILSON, MEL TAYLOR, GERRY McGEE and GARY WOODS
8x10 photo signed by all four
Photograph signed: "Don Wilson", "Gary Woods", "Mel Taylor" and "Gerry McGee". B/w, 8x10 overall, four 3½x4¼ images (one surface). Captioned in lower margin. The Ventures were the most successful American instrumental rock band of the 1960s, best known for their signature hit "Walk - Don't Run" and for their theme song for the TV series "Hawaii Five-0". In addition to their singles, the Ventures had a long string of successful concept albums. Although their popularity in the US waned in the 1970s, they continued to tour and score hits worldwide, especially in Japan, where they have sold over 40 million records. DON WILSON (rhythm guitar), formerly a construction worker in Tacoma, Washington, was a founding member of the group. MEL TAYLOR (drummer) joined the band in 1962, GERRY McGEE (lead guitar) in 1968. When Mel Taylor died while touring Japan in 1996, he was replaced by his son Leon. No further information is available on Gary Woods. He must have been a temporary replacement for longtime bass guitarist Bob Bogle, an original member of the band. Lightly creased in upper left corner. Woods' signature slightly smudged. Otherwise, fine condition.
