THE VIKINGS THREE: MOSE HENRY, RENNY TEMPLE, ROY CONNORS
The Florida folk trio who became members of The Highwaymen, shown with their instruments
Photograph inscribed and signed: "To Tom/Best of Luck/The Viking Three/Mose", "Renny", "Roy". B/w, 8x10. The Vikings Three were a popular Florida folk trio who merged with the better known Highwaymen in 1964, after all but one of the original Highwaymen (formed at Wesleyan University in 1958) left the group. The new group retained much of the original music and routine of the Vikings Three, while performing the major hits of the original Highwaymen: "Michael Rowed the Boat Ashore" and "Cotton Fields". The new group performed on Ed Sullivan in 1964, and in live performance. When country music stars Waylon Jennings, Johnny Cash and Kris Kristofferson formed a new super group called the Highwaymen, the older trio sued, but dropped their suit when used as an opening act for the country music group in a Hollywood concert (2000). Henry, Temple and Connors performed as The Highwaymen on a 2002 American Soundtrack TV special with such other old favorites as The Limeliters and The Kingston Trio. Lightly creased. Lightly worn. Otherwise, fine condition.
