Supreme Court, 1975-1981 sign a philatelic envelope honoring Oliver Wendell Holmes.
Philatelic Envelope signed: "Warren E. Burger", "William H. Rehnquist", "Thurgood Marshall", "Byron White", "Wm. J. Brennan, Jr.", "John Paul Stevens", "Lewis F. Powell, Jr.", "Potter Stewart" and "Harry A. Blackmun", 6½x3½. First day cover honoring Oliver Wendell Holmes, Associate Justice of the Supreme Court (1902-1932). 15-cent Holmes stamp affixed, postmarked Washington, D.C., March 8, 1968, FIRST DAY OF ISSUE. WARREN BURGER led the Supreme Court away from the judicial activism of his predecessor, Earl Warren, and toward a more conservative philosophy. Burger was Chief Justice from 1969-1986. He was succeeded by Associate Justice WILLIAM H. REHNQUIST, who served as Chief Justice from 1986 until his death in 2005. THURGOOD MARSHALL was the first Black American on the Supreme Court, serving from 1967-1991. The nine Justices signing this envelope served together from 1975-1981. Lightly creased. Fine condition.
