Record Album Cover signed: "Peter/Townshend". 12¼x12¼ The LP record album White City (record included), signed on the front cover. Formed in 1964 and disbanded in 1983, but with several reunion tours thereafter, The Who was one of the premier rock groups of the "British invasion." The band's lead guitarist Peter Townshend (b. 1945) was also a fine songwriter, whose hits included The Kids Are Alright and My Generation. He did most of the writing for The Who's "rock opera" Tommy (1973). (Altogether, he wrote over 100 songs for The Who, and a similar number for solo release. When Tommy appeared on Broadway 20 years later, it earned Townshend both a Tony and a Grammy. Entirely self-taught on guitar and other instruments, Townshend still ranks among the best guitarists of his day. White City was a concept album describing life in the low income housing where Townshend grew up. Corners slightly chipped away. Otherwise, fine condition.
