TEDDY WILBURN, DOYLE WILBURN and LESLIE WILBURN
Signed b/w publicity photo by Fabry of Nashville of Teddy and Doyle Wilburn of the Wilburn Brothers. Also signed by Leslie Wilburn, who performed with them when they were the Wilburn Family.
Photograph signed "Leslie/Wilburn", "Teddy/Wilburn", "Doyle Wilburn". B/w, 10x8 overall, 9¼x7½ image, one surface. Photo by Fabry of Nashville. DOYLE WILBURN (1930-1982, born Virgil Doyle Wilburn in Thayer, Missouri) and TEDDY WILDBURN (1931-2003, born Thurman Theodore Wilburn in Thayer, Missouri) were one of country music's last great sibling acts. They got their start touring radio stations and other Southern venue with siblings LESTER WILBURN (1926-2005), Leslie Wilburn and Geraldine Wilburn as the Wilburn Family. Roy Acuff caught them in Birmingham, Alabama and invited them to the Grand Ole Opry - a gig that they had for only six months due to child labor laws. They broke up during World War II, the four brothers reforming the act from 1948 to 1951 on the Louisiana Hayride radio show. Doyle and Teddy were both drafted to serve in the Korean War in 1951; by the time they'd gotten back, their brothers Leslie and Lester had retired from music. Nevertheless, they kept the act going and scored their first hit in 1954 with Sparkling Brown Eyes. They went on to chart five singles in the Billboard Country Singles Top 10 between 1962 and 1966: Trouble's Coming Back to Town (1962), Roll Muddy River (1963), Tell Her So (1963), It's Another World (1965) and Someone Before Me (1966). They also promoted other country artists through their own country music TV show, The Wilburn Brothers Show (1963-1974); their own talent agency the Wil-Helm Talent Agency, founded with steel guitarist Don Helms; and the Sure-Fire music publishing house, run by Lester and Leslie. The TV show gave early exposure to acts like the Oak Ridge Boys, Tammy Wynette and Barbara Mandrell, while the Wil-Helm and Sure-Fire helped launch the careers of Loretta Lynn and other performers. Lightly toned, creased and bowed. Light nick at left edge. Rounded bottom corners. Otherwise in fine condition.
