Boys were a popular comedy vocal quartet active from 1927 to 1939. The group started
doing college humor, but broadened its range to include satire on current events. They appeared
in several films, including Al Jolson's The Singing Kid (1935), and were the top-billed stars in
one (Thrill of a Lifetime, 1937). They also made a series of shorts for Paramount and then
Vitaphone, with titles like The Vodka Boatmen. Jimmie Kern, later credited as JAMES V.
KERN (1909-1966) went on to a career as a B-movie and TV director, directing many
episodes of I Love Lucy and My Three Sons. The other group members, CHARLES
ADLER (1886-1966), GEORGE KELLY (1890-1974) and BILLY MANN (1901-1974)
did not continue to pursue entertainment careers. Edges toned. Corners lightly worn. Some
signatures in poor contrast but fully legible. Pencil notes (unknown hand) on verso. Otherwise,
fine condition.
