THE YACHT CLUB BOYS (BILLY MANN)
Pencil signature of a member of the comedy vocal quartet
Signature: "Billy Mann/Yacht Club Boys", 4x5½ album leaf. Ink notes (unknown hand) at right and bottom edges. BILLY MANN (1901-1974) was a member of the Yacht Club Boys, a popular comedy vocal quartet active from 1927 to 1939. The group started doing college humor, but broadened its range to include satire on current events. They appeared in several films, including Al Jolson's The Singing Kid (1935), and were the top-billed stars in one (Thrill of a Lifetime, 1937). They also made a series of shorts for Paramount and then Vitaphone, with titles like The Vodka Boatmen. Toned and creased. Pin size holes around edges. Corners lightly worn. Otherwise, fine condition.
