THE YARDBIRDS: CHRIS DREJA and JIM McCARTY
7x6 color photo from Epic Records and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Museum, signed by both
Photograph signed: "Chris Dreja", "Jim/McCarty". Color 7½x5¾ image, 10x8 overall, (1 surface). Chris Dreja (rhythm guitar) and Jim McCarty (drums) were original members of an innovative British band, The Yardbirds, formed in 1963. Like most such bands, its composition changed over the years, but lead singers at its peak of popularity in the mid-1960s included Eric Clapton and Jimmy Page (later of Led Zeppelin). Originally a blues band, the Yardbirds were pulled in a more pop direction by the marketplace, but were difficult to classify since their music included influences ranging from jazz to Gregorian chants. Their first super hit, "For Your Love" (1964), was also a crisis point, since Clapton didn't like the song, preferred to play pure blues, and soon left the group. A 1965 hit, "Shape of Things," was among the first psychedelic rock songs. The Yardbirds had lost popularity by the end of the decade, but Dreja and McCarty re-formed the Yardbirds in 1993, released a new album and made a successful US tour. Captioned at lower margin. Fine condition.
