THELMA RITTER and FRANK CAPRA The actress agrees to perform the role of "Sophie" in the 1959 Capra film A Hole in the Head. Contract signed: "Thelma Ritter" and "Frank Capra", 15 pages, 8½x11. Los Angeles, California, 1958 August 14. Thelma Ritter agrees with SINCAP Productions, Inc. and Frank Capra Productions, Inc. to appear in the role of "Sophie" in the upcoming Capra film A Hole in the Head. The contract, commencing no later than November 24, 1958, compensates Ritter at the rate of $5,714.29 a week. Former stage and vaudeville performer THELMA RITTER (1902-1969) gave such a strong performance in an unbilled role as a weary Christmas shopper in Miracle on 34th Street (1947) that she was offered more roles. She went on to earn six Academy Award nominations as Best Supporting Actress: All About Eve (1950), The Mating Season (1951), With a Song in My Heart (1952), Pickup on South Street (1953), Pillow Talk (1959) and Birdman of Alcatraz (1962). In A Hole in the Head, Ritter earned critical praise playing the wife of Edward G. Robinson and sister-in-law of Frank Sinatra. FRANK CAPRA (1897-1991), born in Sicily, was the winner of three Best Director Academy Awards: It Happened One Night (1934), Mr. Deeds Goes to Town (1936) and You Can't Take It With You (1938). He enjoyed total creative freedom on his sets and also directed, among other films, Lost Horizon (1937), Meet John Doe (1941) and It's A Wonderful Life (1946). Capra was the first Hollywood director to have his name precede a film's title. Two staples at top edge. Two filing holes at top edge. Otherwise, fine condition.
