THEODOR BROCH
Irrepressible Norwegian WWII politician signs name and title in pencil
Signature: "Theodor Broch/ Mayor/ of/ NARVIK" in pencil. 1 page, 2½x2½, Theodor Broch (1904-1998) was a Norwegian politician for the Labor Party. Born into a prominent family, Broch was a participant of the Left Communist Youth League's military strike action in 1924, where he was convicted and sentence to 90 days of probation; he later graduated with a law degree and would work on and off as an attorney for the rest of his life. His prominence came when he served as mayor of the large city of Narvik from 1934 until the country was invaded by German Nazis in 1945 and he was exiled to the United States and the United Kingdom; Broch's participation in the war earned him a Defence Medal (1940-195), the Legion d' honneur (1946), and the Order of the British Empire (1975). After the war, Broch returned to politics as a member of the post-war Schei Committee (1946-1950), he served as a Member of Parliament (1945-1949), and as chief administrative officer in Tonsberg (1949-1973). In 1978 he founded the Norwegian-Pakistani Association and served as its first chairman until 1981. Toned. Pencil slightly smudged. Corners rounded. Otherwise, fine condition.
