He organized the Zionist World Congress in Basel, Switzerland in 1897 and was President of the Zionist Organization from 1897 to his death in 1904. In Europe, Herzl kept in contact with many leaders. In 1901, England offered the Jewish people land in British East Africa. This divided many Zionists who wanted a home in Palestine. Extreme worry over the dispute injured Herzl's health and hastened his death at the age of 44. PAULINE HERZL had a failed marriage, became a drug addict and died in a hospital in Bordeaux, France at the age of 40 in 1930. Her brother Hans, a year younger, committed suicide in Bordeaux at the age of 39 on the day of his sister's funeral. Theodor Herzl is rare in any form. Date and one word in Herzl's note a bit light on colorful message side picturing Hyde Park Corner and The Serpentine, London. Lightly browned at edges from prior framing, chipped and worn at upper left blank corner, worn at other corners. Overall, fine condition.
