THEODOR REIK
Reik handwrote, dated and signed this letter on his personalized stationery in 1966, thanking the recipient for a letter and asking her send him a copy of her book.
Autograph letter signed "Theodor Reik" in blue ink. 1 page, 8½x11, on Reik's letterhead. April 4, 1966. In full: "Dear Mrs. Crawford: It was good to hear from you and good news too. I am, of course, very curious about the book. Please send me a copy and please use the copy 'Psychologically Intriguing....' With all good wishes sincerely yours,". American psychologist REIK (1888-1969, born in Vienna, Austria) was one of Sigmund Freud's earliest and most brilliant students (their association lasted from 1910-1938, when Reik came to the U.S.). In 1948, Dr. Reik, who is noted for his research in such areas as masochism and criminology, founded the National Psychological Association for Psychoanalysis. His works include The Secret Self (1952), Of Love and Lust (1957), Voices from the Inaudible (1964), Curiosities of the Self (1965) and The Many Faces of Sex (1956). Lightly toned, soiled, creased and rippled. Pen dribbled while writing letter in places; letter is still legible. Folded thrice and unfolded. Otherwise in fine condition.
