Autograph Letter Signed: "Theodor Reik.", 1p, 8½x11. New York, New York, May 26, 1959. On his personal imprinted letterhead to "Dear Mr. Baker". In full: "Thanks for your nice lines. I regret that I have no photographs and I hope you will take this note as autograph. Another autograph is enclosed, with good wishes Sincerely Theodor Reik. ". Reik has crossed off a portion of the imprinted address and written: "51" and "86th Street." American psychologist THEODOR REIK (1888-1969), who had been born in Vienna, Austria, was one of Sigmund Freud's earliest and most brilliant students (their association lasted from 1910-1938, when Reik came to the U.S.). In 1948, Dr. Reik, who is noted for his research in such areas as masochism and criminology, founded the National Psychological Association for Psychoanalysis. His works include The Secret Self (1952), Of Love and Lust (1957), Voices from the Inaudible (1964), Curiosities of the Self (1965) and The Many Faces of Sex (1956). One horizontal two vertical mailing folds. Top and bottom left corners creased. Toned and creased. Multiple stains at lower blank margin. Imprints from writing at lower blank margin. Lightly worn at top right corner. Otherwise, fine condition.
