Autograph letter signed "Theodor Reik" in blue ink. 1 page, 8½x11, on Reik's personalized letterhead. Dec. 20, 1963. In part: "Dear Mrs. Cranford: Cordial thanks for your kind lines and wishes. I hope you don't [sic] mind that I do not send a card. (It is very cold and I am afraid to go out) I need not tell you that I am sending you best regards and wishes. The book on Jewish history is postponed until the fall of 1964, but at the end of Feb=ruary Farrar, Straus & Comp ([address]) will publish a new book of mine entitled Pagan Rites in Judaism. If you are inter-ested and you write them soon that you are a student of mine please tell them that you would like to have the book at the (much cheaper) pre=publica=tion=price. I hope everything is going your way and will in 1964" American psychologist REIK (1888-1969, born in Vienna, Austria) was one of Sigmund Freud's earliest and most brilliant students (their association lasted from 1910-1938, when Reik came to the U.S.). In 1948, Dr. Reik, who is noted for his research in such areas as masochism and criminology, founded the National Psychological Association for Psychoanalysis. His works include The Secret Self (1952), Of Love and Lust (1957), Voices from the Inaudible (1964), Curiosities of the Self (1965) and The Many Faces of Sex (1956). Lightly toned and rippled. Signature and handwriting are lightly smeared in placed, but legible. Folded once horizontally and twice vertically. Otherwise in fine condition.
