The Oscar nominated screen and stage actor signs a white 5x3 card
Signature:"Theo Bikel", in black felt tip, 5x3. Theodore Bikel is printed on the card above
signature. Austrian-born Bikel (1924-2015) moved with his family to Palestine (1938), from
where he moved on to the London stage. Balancing acting and singing careers, he played a
German ship captain in The African Queen (1951) and earned a Best Supporting Actor
Oscar nomination for The Defiant Ones (1958). He originated the role of Captain Von
Trapp in the Broadway performance of The Sound of Music (1959). In 1955, he recorded
an album of Israeli folk songs. He was a co-founder of the Newport Folk Festival, and
performed in it (1960). He served as Vice President of the American Jewish Congress. Fine
condition.
