Photograph Signed: "Theodore Bikel" in black ink. B/w, 7x9. Austrian-born Theodore Bikel
(1924-2015) moved with his family to Palestine (1938), from where he moved on to the
London stage. Balancing acting and singing careers, he played a German ship captain in The
African Queen (1951) and earned a Best Supporting Actor Oscar nomination for The
Defiant Ones (1958). He originated the role of Captain Von Trapp in the Broadway
performance of The Sound of Music (1959). In 1955, he recorded an album of Israeli folk
songs. He was a co-founder of the Newport Folk Festival, and performed in it (1960). He
served as Vice President of the American Jewish Congress. Light surface creases. Corners
rounded. Paper affixed on verso. Otherwise, fine condition.
