Biography Signed: "Theodore Bikel", 1 page, 8½x11. New York, N. Y., circa 1955. His typed
responses to biographic information (birth, education and acting career) as requested on a form
from Theatre World. Austrian-born Theodore Bikel (1924-2015) moved with his family to
Palestine (1938), from where he moved on to the London stage. Balancing acting and singing
careers, he played a German ship captain in The African Queen (1951) and earned a Best
Supporting Actor Oscar nomination for The Defiant Ones (1958). He originated the role
of Captain Von Trapp in the Broadway performance of The Sound of Music (1959). In
1955, he recorded an album of Israeli folk songs. He was a co-founder of the Newport Folk
Festival, and performed in it (1960). He served as Vice President of the American Jewish
Congress. Two horizontal folds. Lightly creased. Otherwise, fine condition.
