Signature: “Theodore Lesley/Tampa, Flo. 1966” in iron gall ink. 3½x3½. Theodore Lesley
(1911-1978) was a historian who specialized in the study of local and regional history and
developed a great collection of Florida history materials. He served as a member of the
Hillsborough County Historical Commission when a legislative act in 1949 led to its
creation. In 1966, he became the second Hillsborough County Historian where he developed
exhibits for the museum and built collections and remained there until his death. His activities
with other cultural organizations included duties as a director of the Florida Historical
Society, an active member of Barrio Latino and leadership posts with the Society of the
Territory of Florida and the Florida Genealogical Society. Toned. Right margin slightly
frayed. Printings on verso. Otherwise, fine condition.
