THOMAS EDISON
Handwritten and signed correspondence from 1925 between Edison and one of his researchers concerning "the effect of blasts on various reproducers"
Autograph note signed "E" in pencil, 1 page, 4¾x8, on ruled paper. The note is correspondence between Edison and F. G. Blaine. Blaine dated the note June 15, 1925 and writes in pencil: "Mr. Edison, Several months ago you had me note the effect of blasts on various reproducers. I am still holding these 13 speakers Do you want them returned to the library? F. G. Blaine". Edison responded in his own handwriting: "Report how they act & return to Library. E". Edison (1847-1931), who invented the Vitascope in 1890, is credited with establishing the standard of using 35mm film with four perforations on the edges, and he produced talking motion pictures in 1913. Among the more than one thousand other inventions patented by Edison are the incandescent electric lamp, phonograph (his favorite invention), mimeograph, alkaline storage battery and microphone. In 1887, Edison set up his facility dedicated to research and development in West Orange, New Jersey. By the following year, it was the world's largest scientific testing laboratory. His original laboratory, in Menlo Park, New Jersey, was removed to the Greenfield Village Museum in Dearborn, Michigan by his friend, Henry Ford, in 1929. Lightly toned, soiled and creased. Pinhole near upper left corner. Page has been folded in half vertically and thrice horizontally. Small tears along bottom, right and left edges, with a larger tear near vertical fold in bottom edge. Otherwise in fine condition.
