Luhr" as Vice President and Works Manager, 1½p, 8x11 (front and verso). West Orange, N.J., 1920 October 27. Pages 173 and 174 of a Corporate Minutes book. Headed: "Minutes of a Meeting of the Board of Directors of Edison Phonograph Works". The Board Meeting was held to replace an agent of the Edison Phonograph Works in Illinois. In part: "Mr. C.W. Luhr stated that now that Mr. J.T. McDermott was no longer permanently located in Chicago, Ill. it seemed advisable to appoint someone to replace him as agent or representative of the Edison Phonograph Works in the State of Illinois...RESOLVED: - that the designation heretofore made of J.T. McDermott as the attorney-in-fact on whom service can be had in all suits commended in the State of Illinois, be and the same is hereby revoked, and, RESOLVED: - That Mr. Phillip A. Garrity, No. 750 Peoples' Gas Building, Chicago, Illinois, be and he is hereby designated as the agent or representative of this Company on whom service of legal process may be had in all suits that may be commenced against the Company in the State of Illinois...." The inventor's son, CHARLES EDISON, later served as FDR's Secretary of the Navy and Governor of New Jersey. STEPHEN B. MAMBERT, who had been named efficiency engineer of Thomas A. Edison, Inc. in 1915, served as a financial executive for Edison. HARRY F. MILLER began his association with the Edison laboratory in 1888, becoming Edison's private secretary (1908-1910). He was also assistant treasurer for the Edison Phonograph Works, the National Phonograph Company, the Edison Manufacturing Company and the Bates Manufacturing Company and became Treasurer of Thomas A Edison Inc. in 1916, serving until his retirement in 1937. Ink smudged at the "Th" of Thomas and at 3 letters of Miller's signature, stray ink blot at blank area beneath signatures. Lightly soiled, stained at blank right margin on front. Rippled at blank left margin, where mounting strip has been affixed. Slightly shaded. Overall, fine condition.
