publishing his first book of poems The Bells in 1855, Aldrich became
junior literary critic for the New York Evening Mirror and then subeditor

1890. His books of poems include Cloth of Gold (1874), Flower and
Thorn (1877), Mercedes and Later Lyrics (1877) and Windham
Towers (1890). Aldrich also wrote several novels, but is best known for
this short story collection Marjorie Dew and Other People (1873) and his
semi-autobiographical The Story of a Bad Boy (1870). Heavily toned.
