The NASA test pilot signs his name with best wishes on this color photograph, wherein he is pictured wearing a NASA jumpsuit and hat
Inscribed photograph signed: "To Michael Furness,/Best wishes,/Tom McMurtry", in black felt tip, 10x8. Thomas C. McMurtry (b. 1935), formerly a US Navy test pilot, was NASA's research test pilot during the preliminary tests of the space shuttle system. In August 1977, McMurtry was co-pilot of the 747 Carrier Aircraft which took the experimental space shuttle Enterprise aloft for its first flight and landing tests. (Enterprise was a prototype which never traveled into space.) The pilot on the mission was Fitz Fulton who, whether from modesty or superstition, declined to sign space shuttle material before the shuttle tests proved successful. McMurtry now directs the VectorVision project at a private aerospace firm, Wolf Air. Edges slightly worn. Lightly toned. Fine condition.
