THOMAS E. MILLSOP
His signature as President of Weirton Steel
Signatures: "T. E. Millsop", "Eleanor Millsop", 9½x3½ (front and verso). Ink note (unknown hand): "(President Weirton Steel/Pa.). Dated (unknown hand): Oct. 6 (n.y.) Autograph Notes on verso: "Thanks for everything - Bill Howard", "There really is no substitute for brains/[illegible signature], "George/Darling, in plain old English I think/you are terrific/May Howard". Thomas E. Millsop (1898-1967), a US Marine Corps pilot in World War I, joined Weirton Steel, a subsidiary of National Steel, as a salesman in 1927. Nine years later he became company president, and headed Weirton during its World War II heyday as a supplier of war material. He became the first Mayor of Weirton, West Virgina (1947-1955), President of National Steel (1954-1961) and its Chairman until his retirement in 1964. (Weirton, located is located in West Virginia, not Pennsylvania as the ink note states, but it is very close to the borders of both Pennsylvania and Ohio.) Thomas Millsop married Eleanor Marwitz Ent, widow of US Air Force General Suzal Ent, in 1949. Mrs. Millsop was a former stage and radio singer in the Pittsburgh area. These signatures were acquired by radio/TV host George Sanders. No information is available on the signers included on verso. Right edge ragged from previous binding. Edges lightly toned. Some show-through of ink from side to side.
