Ever yours". English lawyer, author and politician Thomas Hughes (1822-1896) wrote several novels, the most popular being his semi-autobiographical Tom Brown's School Days (1857). A Member of Parliament for the Liberal Party (1865-1874), Hughes was an exponent of Christian socialism and an early supporter of the trade union movement.
