Handwritten letter from the English doctor and author, soliciting a
proxy vote for the Idiot's Asylum. "We hope with your good help to get in next
time."
Autograph Letter signed: "T. K. Chambers", 1 page, 4½x7½.
Shrub's Hill, Sunningdale [England], 1870 October 15. On personal
letterhead to "Dear Mrs. Reynolds", in full: "Can you give me
your proxy for the Idiots Asylum in favor of George Sleet? He is a
neighbor of mine here and it is really a pressing case. We hope with your good
help to get in next time. Your proxy would much oblige. Yours truly".
Dr. Thomas King Chambers (d. 1889) was an English physician who
published many articles in medical journals, including Lancet from
the 1860s. He delivered the prestigious Harveian Oration of the Royal College
of Physicians in 1871 (on the topic, "Restorative Medicine"). He served for
a time as personal physician to the Prince of Wales (the future King
Edward VII). His publications included A Manual of Diet in Health and
Disease (1875). Normal mailing folds. Ink note (unknown hand) on verso
(no show through). Otherwise, fine condition.
