THOMAS P. "TIP" O'NEILL, JR.
3x5 index card signed by Massachusetts Congressman "Thomas P. O'Neill", without his nickname Tip
Signature: "Thomas P O'Neill", 3x5 index card. This card does not have O'Neill's nickname Tip. O'Neill (1912-1994) represented Massachusetts in the House of Representatives as a Democrat from 1953-1987. He was House Majority Leader from 1973-1977 and Speaker of the House from 1977-1987, making him the second longest serving speaker, and the longest serving speaker without a break, in American history. A liberal Democrat, he criticized President Lyndon B. Johnson and his Vietnam War policies. He also called President Ronald Reagan "a cheerleader with a smile" and that his administration was "one big Christmas party for the rich," even though the two were privately friends. O'Neill was well-known for working with three other Irish-American politicians, who came to be known as "the Four Horsemen", in denouncing violence in Northern Ireland and supporting the 1985 Anglo-Irish agreement. Lightly toned. Lower right corner of card has been cut off. Otherwise, fine condition.
