Autograph Letter Signed: "Allen & Thurber/T.P. Wheelock". One page. 8x9¾. Norwich, May 10, 1855. To Mess. Jessop & Sons, New York. In full: "We find ourselves nearly out of 1 5/16 inch round steel and will thank you to send us our case Soon as you receive this". Thomas P. Wheelock (1813-1864) was an arms designer and manufacturer who specialized in small pistols, including the pepperbox. He is most famous for creating single-action revolvers in the mid-1800s with his brother-in-law Ethan Allen(1808-1871, not the Revolutionary War leader). Lightly creased. Folds, vertical fold touches the "W" of Wheelock. Address leaf is soiled and stained. 1x¾-inch tear at upper blank edge from opening of ¾-inch red seal. Otherwise, fine condition.
