Thomas Weston Tipton (1817-1899) represented Nebraska in the US Senate (1867-1875), delivering the first Senate speech ever given by a Senator from the new state. Tipton was a Republican, but a maverick who campaigned for three Whig, two Republican, and 4 Democratic Presidential candidates. He voted in favor of removing President Johnson from office. He sought the governorship unsuccessfully in 1880. Toned. Ink smeared but legible. Mounting residue on verso. Otherwise, fine condition.
