Hird", 7¼x6¼ album leaf. Ink note (unknown hand): 1965. English actress
Thora Hird (1911-2003) came from a theatrical family but did was known
to British audiences for her work in TV sitcoms. These included Meet the
Wife (1963-1966), Hallelujah! (as a Salvation Army captain,
1981-1984) and Last of the Summer Wine (1986-2003). She also made
some feature films, including Went the Day Well? (in which she defended
her home from a German paratrooper). She won BAFTA awards as Best Actress for
Talking Heads and Lost for Words. A devout Christian and active
philanthropist, she also hosted a BBC religious program, Praise Be! She
was made an OBE in 1983, a Dame Commander of the British Empire in 1993. Lightly
frayed at left edge. Lightly toned at edges. Slightly creased. Otherwise, fine
condition.
