Joe Besser (1907-1988) replaced Shemp Howard as a member of the Three Stooges in
1956, the year after Howard died of a heart attack. Besser, who had already appeared in
11 short subjects and 14 feature films before joining the zany masters of slapstick, made 16
more shorts with Moe Howard and Larry Fine, beginning with Hoofs and Goofs. When Besser
left due to a movie contract commitment, he was replaced in the group by Curly Joe DeRita. A
former popular guest on radio and television variety shows, Besser returned to television and
feature films in 1958 and later voiced a number of cartoon characters, including Scare Bear,
Boo Boo's replacement as Yogi Bear's sidekick. Fold creases not near signature. Lightly
creased at corners. Fine condition.
