THE THREE STOOGES: CURLY JOE DE RITA
Color publicity photograph of The Three Stooges on a flying carpet.
Photograph signed: "Curly - Joe". Color, 5x6. Facsimile signatures of Moe [Howard], Larry [Fine] and - at bottom - Curly Joe [De Rita]. In 1923, vaudeville performer Ted Healy began appearing as "Ted Healy and his Stooges", supported by MOE HOWARD (1897-1975) and his brother Shemp Howard. In 1928, LARRY FINE (1911-1974) joined Moe and Shemp. The three appeared in several Broadway reviews and supported Healy in feature films. Shemp left the group and was replaced by another brother, Curly Howard (1906-1952). In 1934, The Three Stooges began appearing in comedy films of their own. More personnel changes followed. In 1958, Moe and Larry were joined byJOE DE RITA (1909-1993), nicknamed "Curly-Joe" because of his resemblance to Curly Howard. This ensemble appeared in the last four full-length Three Stooges comedies through 1963 and in many other TV and film roles. Moe, Larry and Curly-Joe also made a number of personal appearances together. Minor surface creases and smudges (not evident head on), 1 smudge at the "M" of Moe. Fine condition.
