THE THREE STOOGES: LARRY FINE
Larry Fine sends an autograph letter to a fan recommending his book Stroke of Luck.
Autograph Letter Signed: "Larry Fine" and "Larry" in text, 1p, 5¾x8¾. No place, no date. To Jack. In full: "Here is the only picture I have avaliable (sic). I hope you like it. Here's something that might interest you. I wrote a Book called 'Stroke of Luck' It's all about my career with the 3 Stooges. It also contains over 120 rare and collector item photos from all our movies. It will not be sold in Bookstores, but by mail order only, so if you would like to buy the Book, here's how. Please send $7.95 in check or money order to 'Larry' P.O. Box 313 Hollywood, Calif. 90028." Photograph mentioned not present. MOE HOWARD (1897-1975), born Moses Horwitz, and his brother, SHEMP (1895-1955), born Samuel Horwitz, along with LARRY FINE (1902-1975), born Louis Feinberg, who joined Moe and Shemp in 1925, were the original members of The Three Stooges. Following their success on vaudeville, the zany slapstick comedians appeared in several Broadway revues and in the film Soup to Nuts (1930). Fine, the "middle" Stooge with the receding hairline and bushy unkempt hair, was not as dominating as Moe or as distinctive as Shemp (Shemp's replacements, notably Curly), but his relative normality allowed him to play the necessary straight man to the other Stooges. Because of their popularity from the release of their old "shorts" on television, the Stooges later returned to feature films. Lightly creased with folds, not at signature. Slightly soiled. Fine condition.
