Photograph Signed: “Tiana Lemnitz [illegible]” b/w 3½x4¾ bust view portrait with a thin white border. Tiana Lemnitz (1897-1994) was a German soprano opera singer who predominantly performed from 1919-1939. She performed around the world throughout Europe and South America as her career took off after studying at the Hoch Conservatory. She was a regular member with the Berlin Staatsoper (State Opera) from 1934-1957. In 1937, she sang as Marguerite in Faust opposite renowned opera singer Feodor Chaliapin's Mephisto. That same year, she was named a Kammersanger, a German honorary title for female opera singers. As film became a more prominent performance medium, she performed in films, most notably in The Marriage of Figaro (1949). Fine condition.
