TIPPI HEDREN
Signed b/w photograph of actress Tippi Hedren sitting next to a lion. Hedren founded the Shambala Preserve for endangered big cats like lions.
Photograph signed "Tippi Hedren". Pencil notations on verso in unknown hand. B/w, 10x8 overall, 9½x7½ image, one surface. Actress and model Hedren, born Nathalie Kay Hedren in 1930, made her movie debut with an uncredited appearance in 1950's The Petty Girl, then went back to modeling until director Alfred Hitchcock "discovered" her. Hitchcock reportedly wanted to Hedren to become the new Grace Kelly, an actress who starred in three of his movies in the 1950s. Whatever the case, Hedren starred in Hitchcock's The Birds (1963) and Marnie (1964), generally receiving less-than-favorable reviews for both. Luckily, Hedren was under contract, not to Hitchcock, but to his home studio of Universal, allowing her to regain some prestige from contractually obligated appearances in a 1963 episode of Kraft Suspense Theatre and in director Charlie Chaplin's A Countess from Hong Kong (1967). She's appeared in almost 80 movies and TV shows since then, including recurring roles in Dream On (1994-1995), Providence (2000) and Fashion House (2006). Hedren also founded the Shambala Preserve for endangered big cats in Acton, California. Lightly toned, cracked, creased and bowed. Adhesive residue at top edge and in top corners and bottom right corner (does not touch signature). Paper loss in top corners and bottom right corner (does not touch signature). Light scratches and impressions on image. Otherwise in fine condition.
