TITTA RUFFO - PICTURE POST CARD SIGNED - HFSID 155100
Sale Price $170.00
TITTA RUFFO. Picture Postcard signed: "Titta Ruffo", 5¼x3½.
Color illustration of the Teatro Colon (Buenos Aires). Addressed on verso
(unknown hand), 5-centavo Argentine stamp affixed. Operatic baritone Titta
Ruffo (1877-1953), an ironworker's son, had a striking physique and powerful
voice which earned him the title of "the singing lion." He performed at
the world's great opera houses, although some reports credit a jealous Enrico
Caruso with delaying his debut at the Met, where he appeared 1922-1929. His
opposition to fascist rule in his native Italy kept him out of the limelight for
much of his retirement. Lightly creased. Slightly worn at lower edges.
Otherwise, fine condition.
