TO THE SHORES OF TRIPOLI MOVIE CAST: JOHN PAYNE, MAUREEN O'HARA and RANDOLPH SCOTT Black and white publicity photograph from the film To the Shores of Tripoli, signed by all three Inscribed Printed Photograph signed in Ink: "To Ed/ Good Luck/ John Payne" (Chris Winters), "To Edward/ Best Wishes/ Maureen/ O'Hara" (Second Lieutenant Mary Carter) and "To Edward Bomsey-/ Best always-/ Randolph Scott" (Sergeant Dixie Smith), in various inks, b/w, 8x10. MAUREEN O'HARA (1920-2015) was an Irish actress. After her first film test was viewed by actor Charles Laughton, she was signed to a seven-year contract with Mayflower Pictures. Her first major role was in the 1939 Alfred Hitchcock film Jamaica Inn. Laughton, pleased with her performance cast her opposite him as Esmeralda in The Hunchback of Notre Dame (1939). During the start of World War II, O'Hara's contract was sold to RKO studios which cast her in low-budget films until director John Ford cast her as the eldest daughter, Angharad Morgan, in How Green Was My Valley (1941). In 1947, she played Natalie Wood's mother in Miracle on 34th Street. She is often remembered for her on-screen chemistry with John Wayne. The two worked together on five films: Rio Grande, The Quiet Man, The Wings of Eagles, McLintock!, and Big Jake.  Some of her other roles include mother Maggie McKendrick in The Parent Trap, Olivia Spencer in Spencer's Mountain and Peggy Hobbs in Mr. Hobbs Takes a Vacation. O'Hara has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and was inducted into the Western Performers Hall of Fame in 1993. In 2004, she released her autobiography 'Tis Herself, which became a New York Times Bestseller. In 2005 she was named "Irish American of the Year" by Irish America magazine and was inducted into the Irish American Hall of Fame in 2011. JOHN PAYNE (1912-1989) starred in film musicals of the late 1930s and early 1940s before switching to action roles, mostly in Westerns. He also narrated and starred in a TV Western: The Restless Gun (1957-1958). Payne was married first to actress Anne Shirley, and then to Gloria DeHaven. He is the father of actress Julie Payne. RANDOLPH SCOTT (1903-1987) made his film debut in 1928's Sharp Shooters, the first of the many Westerns he would make over the course of his movie career. By the mid-1930s he was a romantic lead and co-star, and from 1950-1953 Scott was one of the top ten box office attractions. The virile, weathered Scott is best known for his cowboy roles; in the 1940s and 1950s he starred in 39 big-budget Westerns, including Virginia City (1940). His last film, Ride the High Country (1962), was one of his best. Indian-born British actress Margaret Lockwood (1916-1990) starred mostly in British films. Her vehicles included The Lady Vanishes (1938), The Stars Look Down (1939), The Wicked Lady (1945) and Cast a Dark Shadow (1955). Thereafter she focused on stage work, returning to movies as Cinderella's stepmother in The Slipper and the Rose (1976). Creased. Lightly worn. Otherwise, fine condition.
